A pilot study conducted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) showed that drinking hydrogen-rich water may be beneficial for athletes in reducing oxidative stress-induced muscle fatigue following acute exercise ¹. The study hypothesized that drinking hydrogen-rich water may be beneficial for athletes since hydrogen is known to scavenge toxic ROS and induce a number of antioxidant proteins ¹.
Molecular hydrogen (H2) has recently emerged as a new and safe energizer that may have beneficial effects on athletes ². A study conducted by HHO Bulgaria showed that molecular hydrogen accelerates post-exercise recovery in athletes ². However, there is no information on the effect of H2 on the recovery index after exercise ².
Hydrogen therapy can help athletic performance by assisting in recovery from injury. Research shows that H2 therapy can be useful in the treatment of many kinds of injury, from skeletal to muscle injury. This again makes hydrogen therapy interesting for athletes ³.
