The Surprising Benefits of Drinking Hydrogen Water

What about water truly helping us?

If water is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, what is it about water that makes it healthy for us to drink? Well oxygen is good for us, right? If oxygen causes oxidation which is bad for us, it must be the hydrogen in H20 that is beneficial to our body.

According to Dr. Patrick Flanagan, hydrogen is the smallest and lightest element in the universe and it has unique qualities that make it very special. Hydrogen-rich water can act as an antioxidant because hydrogen is a scavenger of ROS (reactive oxygen species).

ROS are damaging molecules that attack healthy cells and cause inflammation. This is why hydrogen-rich water is being studied for its potential health benefits, including reducing oxidative stress, improving athletic performance, and protecting the brain from damage.

One study found that drinking hydrogen-rich water for four weeks improved exercise-induced muscle fatigue in healthy adults. The participants who drank hydrogen-rich water also had lower levels of markers of oxidative stress and inflammation after exercise.

Another study showed that hydrogen-rich water was able to reduce brain damage and improve cognitive function in rats with Alzheimer’s disease. The rats who were given hydrogen-rich water had less protein buildup in their brains, which is associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Hydrogen-rich water may also be beneficial for people with diabetes. One study found that hydrogen-rich water improved insulin sensitivity and reduced oxidative stress in rats with diabetes.

These studies suggest that hydrogen-rich water has the potential to be a therapeutic agent for various diseases, but more research is still being conducted to confirm these effects. If you’re interested in trying hydrogen-rich water, it’s important to talk to your doctor first to see if it’s right for you.
